Decom and A Friend Moves West

Sigh.

That’s the only word that adequately describes our mood after another magical LA Decompression event celebrated this past weekend. So many great people, exhibits, musical stages, and all-around Burner good cheer made for a gratifying journey back to the playa, if only for 12 hours. We drove Hoe-NAY (our funky 1985 RV) out from our Westside sanctuary and created a pseudo-camp as we had in September at Burning Man, then spent the entire day dancing, interacting with the various art projects, and introducing friends to the community for the first time. As we pulled away at midnight, the pangs of longing for more BRC love hung heavy in our vehicle and we pondered whether or not to set out for the Bay Area for yet another Decom in San Francisco. The sense of purpose and community inherent in the Burning Man experience is more powerful than any drug we’ve ingested and doesn’t seem to diminish as we feed our addiction.

But we digress… Our friend, Jamye, has moved to LA and is suffering the expected roller coaster of emotions that come with such a radical shift; her friends, family, and significant other will now be geographically detached, which automatically means major changes in both the nature and immediacy of those relationships. With respect to the boyfriend, we’re hoping he decides to follow her out and start a new chapter with her and seriously commit to permanence. Of course, seldom does real life imitate chick flicks, so we are prepared to help her through whatever happens, for better or worse.

Which brings up the wider point about why don’t we in many obvious cases, give in to love and redirect our lives, accordingly. In Jamye’s case, she and her boyfriend seem to dance around the decision with constant discussions about discussions. Round and round they go with no concrete steps to go one way or another. No one simply lays it on the table, slams a fist down, and says, “Godammit, this is what we’re going to do – period,” and move forward from that point (though to be fair, Jamye seems to display the stronger fortitude and has taken steps to dissolve the relationship if the dude doesn’t step up, fast). We’re fans of committed relationships, so seeing them stick it out – somehow – would be a joy to behold.

Sex Tip: Get OUT of the bedroom! If you find things dipping to dangerously frigid temperatures in your bedroom, try moving things to a different location. The kitchen counter, dining room table, favorite recliner, and even the area rug on the floor are great alternatives to your mattress. Feeling extra adventurous? Get outside and take a drive. For many of us, the car was where we first let our passions loose and there are still enough spots around LA to park for a quickie (we love rooftop parking levels with views).

Sex Fact: Approximately 70% of people in the U.S. admit to fantasizing about group sex at some point in their life, and more than 50% of those people actually follow through.

Product Love: We’re absolutely floored by the Sportsheets Lap Rider, an ingenious harness that holds almost any dildo in place around your thigh, allowing your partner to get off in full view. It’s almost better than the real thing, though seldom do we get very far before making the switch. An oldie-but-goody item we still keep around is the Lipstick Vibe, which packs a nice buzz and can pass undetected by even the nosiest lover.  In honor of Jamye Waxman coming on board as a regular columnist here we’d like to mention her wonderful Getting Off – A Woman’s Guide to Masturbation, a fun and easy to follow handbook for ladies of all ages and experience levels. From fingers to toys, Jamye lays out the roadmap to perfect orgasms. Finally, we’d like to point you to one of our favorite, if not downright retro, musical collections from 1995. Lida Husik’s Joyride, a mystical and enchanting collection of warm vocals and mild reverb is one of our go-to albums for both relaxing away a lazy summer day AND getting into the mood for shedding clothes and inhibitions.

Aural Stimulation: Check out our latest Podcasts. During the last month, we’ve tackled subjects like dating with Ojoy’s Anne Hodder, female ejaculation with Jamye Waxman, and sexual deprivation with Sex Coach Dr. Patti Britton.
