Our Review:
Being in the adult toy business means being constantly bombarded
by catalogs, e-mails, and trade show hype concerning products of
all manner of wild claims. This lube is the slipperiest, that
supplement will turn your wife into a raging whore porn star,
these vibrators will put the "O" in orgasm, etc. It all gets
tiring and inevitably we're disappointed time and time again.
After all, how many ways ARE there to buzz a clitoris, anyway?
Of course, there are always
exceptions and the hope of finding the "next big thing" is what keeps us
continuing to wade through the endless piles of garbage we pick up along the
way. For in every 100 products that end up in the trash can, we find a
Layaspot,
Blacklight
Beauty, or Lelo Iris to demonstrate there ARE still cool sex products if
we're patient and persistent enough.
 The Cone, a product out of
the UK, was an item that generated a LOT of buzz at the AVN trade show back
in January, and that excitement continued to build right on through summer,
when people caught actual glimpses of it at the Adult Novelties Expo here in
Los Angeles in July. We saw it only briefly across the crowded trade show
floor, and it disappeared just as quickly as it appeared, leaving us
scrambling around searching for it for three days, unfortunately in vain.
The thing looked ultra cool - even from a distance - and we vowed to find a
way to get one, even if that meant ordering one at retail from its UK site
and paying a horrendously high shipping charge to get it here. About this
time, we also began getting e-mails from visitors to our site asking if we'd
ever heard of the Cone and how they could get more info.
 As luck would have it, in
August we received a call from the owner of Alexander Institute, the company
responsible for the Loving Sex Educational Video series. The owner, Meir,
asked if we'd ever heard of "this strange product called a Cone or
something," to which we replied "We're on our way over - NOW!" and set off
for his place in the Valley at that very moment (for those who know us well,
that's akin to jumping on a plane to Calcutta). An hour later, we had the
prize in hand and rushed back to our shop...
 To say The Cone had an
immediate effect on our little sex boutique would risk understatement of the
most ridiculous kind; our three gals immediately rushed to it and we thought
a fight would commence over who would not only get to HOLD if first, but who
might take it home for the first test drive (um, that would be US, thank
you!). The thing is bright pink, squishy to the touch, and the picture of
simplicity. Heavy at its base, it can sit still on just about any surface
and can be held against a wall for added fun. The instruction booklet shows
8 possible positions, though we could imagine several more, and operation of
The Cone is as simple as pressing one of the two buttons located along the
side of the unit. Once on, the device is adjustable from low purr to loud
buzz and the site of everyone rolling around on our shop carpet with it was
priceless beyond its $100.00 price tag. Once we got it home, the fun REALLY
began and we can honestly say we've never had such a great session of laughs
mixed with pleasure in five years of running our website.
 The only unfortunate aspect
of this whole adventure was that we sadly had to give The Cone back to Meir,
who needed it for a trade show the next week. Luckily, he'll be getting a
load soon and we've been promised the first one off the dock. It's not often
the product equals the hype, but The Cone delivers on its promise for fun,
pleasure, and innovation.
