Synopsis: A portable dance/strip pole requiring no mounting
hardware for easy setup in just about any room.
Our Review: In
2003, Eddy and some friends took pole dancing lessons in downtown
Los Angeles. And, predictably, just the thought of all those gals
shimmying around erotically was enough to get them a gourmet meal
prepared by yours truly. After all, if I couldn't be there, I
might as well hear all the juicy details, right? Over broiled
salmon with capers I sat enraptured as they described their
instruction in sexy walking, movement, and basic pole etiquette.
The conversation evolved from there into sex in general and soon
all five of them were revealing the most intimate details of their
sex lives, seemingly unaware that I was in their midst (a wolf in
sheep's clothing, so to speak).
The next morning,
Eddy complained that she was sore in practically every area of her
body, owing this pain to her lesson on the pole the night
previous. Pole dancing, it seems, is quite the workout. Since
then, we've seen classes popping up all over Southern California,
including our own Gold's Gyms, which promises a workout like no
other, along with the added sizzle one will get in the sensuality
department.
The one problem
with taking up pole dancing - at least for us - was the pole
itself. After Eddy's original lesson, we'd investigated installing
a pole in our home, but the few companies who manufacture them
required all sorts of complicated installation hardware. A company
called Lil' Minx
made a nice pole in stainless steel finish, but it required that a
mounting bolt be sunk into the ceiling wherever we'd want to use
it. Another interesting offering came from
Platinum
Stages, which consisted of a pole mounted to a portable stage
(complete with lighting from underneath). However, this was far to
bulky to move around effectively, and the height of the stage
itself limited the variety of moves one could perform under 8 foot
ceilings (they have since released a portable pole similar to the
one we're detailing here). To make matters worse, trying to
contact and deal with these companies proved frustrating at best,
with unreturned phone calls and unfriendly staffs.
Another 2 years
would pass before the opportunity to acquire a pole would come
again, this time by way of the 2005 Erotica LA show, where we met
a representative from a company called Party Pole, who was showing
not only a pole that was completely portable, but one that was
drop-dead gorgeous as well. We quickly grabbed his card and called
him the following Monday. It turned out the television show,
"Blind Date," was coming to our Los Angeles store and we thought
the Party Pole would make a fantastic part of the date itself. The
inventor of the device, Colin, agreed and two poles were set up in
our space within days.
The Party Pole
comes in two pieces, not including the bases, that weighs
approximately 20 pounds. Available in four anodized colors (gold,
blue, red, and silver), you'll be immediately struck by how
beautiful the object is. This is no cheap toy. Installation is
accomplished by extending the pole between the floor and ceiling
joist (found using a standard stud-finder) and turning it until it
telescopes firmly into position. You then lock it with a textured
ring what prevents the pole from unscrewing for added safety. The
pole holds up to 180 pounds (recommended), though we must admit to
placing over 200 pounds on it between 2 willing lovely ladies.
Once broken down, the pole transports easily and you can purchase
a padded carrying case to keep it safe.
With the poles in
place, the Blind Date crew arrived with their unsuspecting pair,
who were treated to a pole dancing lesson by stripper/dancer Tori,
who happens to be the girlfriend of Jordan Dawes - aka Bonkmaster.
After the lesson, both the female AND male gave each other erotic
dances and the Party Poles held firm (even with the much heavier
male working it). Following the date and crew's departure, things
got really good when Tori sat Jordan, myself, and Eddy down for a
20 minute dance just for us, slowly working her way up, down, and
around each pole, mesmerizing us with her display of grace,
beauty, and sexiness. My mission, it became clear, would be to get
Eddy onto that pole!
Since that day,
Tori has regularly come to our space to practice and workout on
the Party Poles and Eddy will soon be taking lessons, as she finds
it a great way to burn calories (and please me simultaneously).
The Party Poles are completely portable and easy to remove, so
we'll bring one home on occasion and we're even considering Tori
taking a group of gals - including Eddy - to a club to do a dance
on a REAL stage to exercise a fantasy of ours.
In summation, the
Party Pole is an incredible piece of equipment that will last a
lifetime and we highly recommend one for any couple interested in
enjoying the wonders of exotic dancing.
