Nerve
is one of those sites that
frustrates me greatly. It relies on the fact that it's name should
automatically be familiar to me and that I already know exactly WHAT the
site IS. As far as I can tell from the home page, Nerve is a collection of
essays, opinions, and photos regarding sex and sexual issues. It also
shamelessly promotes itself (the site's creation was a subject of an HBO
documentary) right on the home page, as well as lacking any sort of
statement as to WHY we should be there in the first place. The photos are
grouped by photographer, so we don't really know what kind of photos they
contain (they use catchy titles instead of descriptions) and I can simply
not escape the question of "What am I doing here?" Am I supposed to be
titillated? Ponder sex's deep meaning? Laugh? All of the above. If you can
figure it out, please let me know via e-mail. Loading time on my cable modem
- 5 seconds.
