No microwave needed.....this heart is an easily re-useable heater. I don't know just how to discribe it except that simply by pushing a metal disc inside the massager, the heart heats up to 129 degrees almost instantly and stays warm for about a half hour.  The kit also includes a citrus scented massage oil and mini massage guide.
